Worst UK violence in 13 years: 100 arrested after far-right protest

Far-right rioters in Rotherham tried to storm ​Holiday Inn Express hotel believed to be housing asylum-seekers. Police were struggling as they faced a barrage of missiles, including bits of wood, chairs, and fire extinguishers. A small fire was also visible while windows in the hotel were smashed.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a stern warning to far-right protesters participating in the worst rioting England has seen in 13 years, stating that they would "regret" their actions.

Far-right activists clashed with anti-racism protesters across the UK on Saturday, with violent incidents from Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, to Liverpool in the northwest of England and Bristol in the west.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold an emergency meeting with police chiefs amid a surge in violent anti-immigration protests. The meeting aims to address the growing unrest and coordinate a response to ensure public safety and order.

A knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, UK, which resulted in the deaths of three young girls and left several others injured triggered these protests.

17-year-old, identified as Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, has been charged with murded in connection with the horrific attack.

Riots broke out in Liverpool, Bristol, Tamworth, Middlesbrough, and Belfast, Northern Ireland. Large groups of young men, wearing balaclavas and draped in British flags, clashed with authorities, throwing rocks and chanting "Stop the Boats." This slogan refers to the arrival of migrants on the south coast in recent years.

The police said that online disinformation fuelled the riots across the country, especially by high-profile figures. Interior minister Yvette Cooper said that the government will work with social media companies to address the issue.
