LONDON: Discussions on the challenges faced by the people of Balochistan were held in a virtual session hosted by John McDonnell, the UK Labour Member of Parliament for Hayes and Harlington. The one-hour-long discourse saw the participation of over 500 individuals worldwide, including prominent Baloch rights activists like Mahrang Baloch, Sabiha Baloch, and Jamal Baloch.
McDonnell reiterated his commitment to the cause, stating that it is an ongoing campaign where collective efforts are needed. He emphasized the need to expose human rights abuses and use every available platform to raise awareness. McDonnell also highlighted the importance of protecting campaigners and the international community's role in exerting pressure on Pakistani authorities.
He called on the UK government to leverage its aid and trade agreements with Pakistan to ensure respect for human rights and civil liberties in Balochistan. Despite the resistance from the Pakistani government, McDonnell stressed the moral responsibility to collaborate with campaigners and establish conditions in trade deals that align with their objectives.
He commended the resilience of protestors and their contribution to securing civil liberties and basic human rights for the people of Balochistan.
