LONDON: An Asian councillor elected in the May one local elections has alleged that Pakistan-style 'biraderi' (brotherhood) practice of voting for one's caste and region was threatening the credibility of elections in Birmingham.
Tariq Khan, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in the Birmingham City Council, said that the "biraderi" system was "disgusting", and added that "gangster politics" and intimidatory tactics arising out of the system was used during the elections.
