6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes Nepal

NEW DELHI: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal during the early hours of Friday. The seismic activity originated in Sindhupalchowk District, situated in the Central Region of Nepal's Himalayan territory.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center's website, the earthquake's epicentre was located in Bhairavkunda, Sindhupalchowk district, occurring at 2.51 AM (Local Time).

Residents across various parts of Nepal, particularly in the eastern and central regions, experienced the tremors. The seismic activity was also detected in parts of neighbouring regions of India and Tibet, China.

Initial assessments indicate no immediate casualties or significant structural damage, whilst local authorities continue to evaluate the impact in the affected areas.

Considering Nepal's susceptibility to severe earthquakes, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant for potential aftershocks.
