Indian-origin driver Sukhdev Singh killed in road crash in Canada; 'All dreams shattered because of someone else's mistake'
A 31-year-old Indian-origin driver for Lyft, Sukhdev Singh, was killed in a road crash in Brampton on November 1 when his car collided with another at the intersection of Queen Street and Chinguacousy Road. According to reports, 1 20-year-old passenger who was in Sukhdev's car also died in the early morning crash.
A person whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act has since been charged with dangerous driving causing death, and failure or refusal to comply with a demand. The second charge is usually associated with refusing a lawful police request for a blood or drug sample during a driving investigation.
Singh's friend Dilraj Singh has started a fundraiser to send his body to India. "He left behind his beloved wife and 3 months baby girl with whom he was planning beautiful life like all of us. All his dream got shattered in seconds cause of someone else’s mistake," Dilraj Singh wrote in his fundraiser.
"Sukhdev belonged to middle class family who took loans to fulfill his dream life that all remain unpaid and left his wife with responsibility of all the debts and a little angel who will feel grew up in the absence of father’s love. We are raising fund to cover the cost of sending his body back and support for his family. Every donation small or big will help ease the financial burden," the fundraiser said.
