Bondi beach mass shooting: Video captures people fleeing to nearby café for cover - watch

Video footage from Sydney’s Bondi Beach shows people running from a nearby cafe as panic broke out across the busy beachfront area after two suspected gunmen opened fire on Sunday, killing nine people and injuring several others.
Another 11 people who were wounded were taken to hospitals across the city, New South Wales police said, as the shooting unfolded at one of Sydney’s most popular tourist destinations.




Police said one of the suspected shooters was killed, while the second was in critical condition.

Crowds fled the beach in eastern Sydney in panic, an area that typically attracts large numbers of surfers, swimmers, and tourists, particularly on weekends.

Emergency services were first dispatched at about 6.45 pm (local time) after reports of shots being fired, New South Wales police said.

The grassy hill overlooking Bondi Beach was littered with belongings left behind by people who fled in haste, including an abandoned child’s stroller, AFP reported.

Images broadcast by public broadcaster ABC showed paramedics treating several people lying on the grass near the beach. A weapon believed to be a pump-action shotgun was seen lying near a tree along the shoreline.

A British tourist told AFP that he saw “two shooters in black” after the gunfire erupted.

A celebration marking the first day of Hanukkah was scheduled at Bondi Beach, according to a digital flyer for “Chanuka by the Sea 2025”, reported by NBC News.

The flyer indicated that the event, organized by the Jewish centre Chabad of Bondi, was set to take place near the beach’s children’s playground from 5.00 pm (local time) on Sunday. The gathering promised live entertainment, music, games, and activities suitable for all ages.
