A road accident in southern Ethiopia has claimed the lives of more than 60 people, local health authority confirmed on Sunday.
The Sidama Regional Health Bureau stated on Facebook that "a car accident has claimed the lives of 66 people so far", and mentioned that four more people are being treated at Bona General Hospital.
The bureau did not offer any further information regarding the crash.
Investigations are still underway and authorities are yet to reveal the cause of the accident.
The bureau stated that the tragedy took place in the eastern zone, Gelana bridge in Bona Zuria Woreda.
The health bureau shared blurred images showing a crowd gathered around a vehicle, partly submerged in water, with numerous people appearing to help lift it out.
Additional photos seemed to depict bodies, draped in blue tarpaulins, lying on the ground.
The bureau offered its condolences to the victims of the accident and assured that more details would be provided as soon as they were available.
