NASSAU, BAHAMAS: Anna Nicole Smith tried frantically to revive her 20-year-old son even after he had been pronounced dead at the Bahamas hospital where the former I centerfold had given birth to a baby girl days before, her attorney said on Wednesday.
Mother and son, along with her spokesman Howard Stern, had spent Saturday night together in Smith's room at Doctors Hospital in Nassau, where the reality TV star was recovering from giving birth on Thursday.

When Smith noticed, about 9.30 am on Sunday, that Daniel did not appear to be breathing, she awoke Stern, who checked his pulse and immediately summoned hospital personnel.
"Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the medical staff was not able to revive Daniel," said Michael Scott, her Bahamian attorney. "Even after Daniel had been pronounced dead, Anna Nicole and Howard frantically continued resuscitation efforts."
Smith was sedated and quickly taken from the hospital, the statement said. She was so shaken up, that she experienced memory loss.
"It was necessary for Howard to tell Anna again that Daniel had passed away," Scott said. Autopsy and toxicology reports will be withheld until the October 23 inquest when they will be introduced as evidence, coroner Linda Virgill said at a news conference Wednesday.
The coroner described the death as "suspicious" because it was sudden and because of Daniel's age, but cautioned that the scheduling of an inquest did not necessarily mean foul play was suspected.

"Anna Nicole was so distraught at the loss of Daniel that she refused to leave his side and it was necessary to sedate her in order to check her out of the hospital,"' Stern said, reading from a prepared statement in his office.
She has left Doctors Hospital, where she gave birth to a girl on September 7, Scott said. She later lost memory of Daniel's death, he said.
Scott confirmed that Stern, whom he described as a friend as well as an attorney for Smith, was the third person in the hospital room who Bahamian authorities had earlier declined to identify.
He said Stern and Daniel Smith spent the entire night in the room where Anna Nicole Smith was recuperating, with Stern leaving only once for food.
Smith, who went to the US Supreme Court this year to sue for an inheritance, moved to the Bahamas to avoid the media spotlight during her pregnancy, Scott said.
"She wanted to give birth to her new baby in a peaceful environment,"' he said. Earlier in the day, Scott said she was in seclusion in the former British territory with family and friends. The identity of the newborn girl's father has not been publicly disclosed.
Authorities said they believe they know what killed Smith on Sunday but they were waiting for a toxicology report to confirm the findings. A jury inquest is scheduled to start October 23.
