ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has apparently told the daughter of detained lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan to persuade her father to give up opposition to his regime. Ahsan, who is also a former minister and a leader of the Pakistan People's Party, was a key member of the movement launched last year by Pakistani lawyers against Musharraf's regime.
Musharraf met Saman in Switzerland during his recent four-nation visit to Europe. "Saman was not convinced with whatever views he put across," Ahsan's wife Bushra said, confirming that Musharraf had a one-on-one meeting with her daughter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Saman, 30, is a project manager of the Council of 100 Leaders in Geneva, an initiative for dialogue between Muslims and the West. The meeting between Musharraf and Saman was organised by Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, who is a friend of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, the Dawn newspaper reported on Thursday. Aziz attended the WEF meet, where he spent substantial time with Musharraf.
