NEW YORK: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon will leave for home next week to meet the country’s top political leadership amid reports that he has resigned from his post.
According to reports in Pakistani media, Haroon, 61 resigned as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the
United Nations due to differences with Islamabad on certain policy matters and interference in the affairs of his office.
A spokesperson at Pakistan’s mission to the UN in New York said the mission is “neither denying nor confirming” the reports of Haroon’s resignation.
“The ambassador is leaving for Pakistan on Monday for consultations,” the spokesperson said. He said during the visit, Haroon will “certainly (meet) the highest political leadership”.
