Here is a timeline of

Imran

Khan:

1971: Imran Khan (18) begins his international cricket career with Test series against England.

1976-82: Khan takes permanent place in Pakistan national team after his graduation from Oxford. He distinguishes himself as an exceptional bowler and all-rounder.

1982-92: He is named captain of the Pakistan national team.

1992: Khan leads his team to its first World Cup title, defeating England in the final. He retired later the same year.

1996: Imran Khan launches Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which means ‘Movement for Justice’.


2002: PTI wins one seat. Khan becomes a member of the National Assembly.

2007: He is imprisoned briefly for criticising the regime of former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf. Khan’s populist positions strike a chord with the youth.

2013: Khan again elected to the National Assembly. Vows to transform Pakistan into ‘Naya Pakistan’ -- a country free of corruption.

2016: Imran Khan is accused of money laundering, receiving funds from foreign sources. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi lodges complaint against him.

December 2017: Supreme Court rules in favour of Imran Khan.

March 6: Khan wins trust vote in National Assembly following Shaikh’s defeat.

March 8, 2022: Pakistan's Opposition leaders submit no-confidence motion against PM Khan; accuse his government of uncontrolled inflation.

March 20: Speaker summons National Assembly session on March 25 to take up no-trust motion.

March 23: PM Khan says he will not resign. Allies of the ruling coalition start jumping ship.

March 25: National Assembly session adjourned without tabling of no-trust motion.

March 27: At massive rally in Islamabad, PM Khan claims foreign powers behind 'conspiracy' to overthrow his government.

March 28: PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif tables no-trust motion against Khan in National Assembly.

March 30: Khan loses majority after key ally sides with Opposition ahead of no-trust vote on April 3.

March 31: National Assembly meets to debate no-trust motion against PM Khan.

April 3 morning: Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri blocks no-trust motion and abruptly ends session.

April 3 evening: President Arif Alvi dissolves National Assembly on advice of PM Khan. Imran addresses the nation, asks people to get ready for general elections.

April 4: Supreme Court takes note of National Assembly proceedings. Begins hearing on rejection of no-trust vote. The president says Imran will continue as PM until the caretaker premier is appointed.

April 4-6: Supreme Court hears arguments. Seeks record of National Assembly proceedings.

April 7: SC strikes down ruling by deputy speaker to block no-trust vote. It also orders restoration of the National Assembly and for the no-trust motion to be held on April 9.

April 9: Pakistan PM Imran Khan loses no-trust vote. He comes the first to lose the motion.
