LeT intelligence chief Azam Cheema, who was among the chief conspirators of Nov 2008 terror attacks and July 2006 train bombings — both in Mumbai — dies of a heart attack in Faisalabad

Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) intelligence chief Azam Cheema has died following a heart attack in Faisalabad. But the 70-year-old’s death has sparked fresh speculation in Pakistan’s jihadi circles about a possible Indian link, especially in the wake of mysterious killings of several LeT operatives in recent months.

Islamabad has accused Indian agencies of being behind the killings of a number of LeT operatives, a charge denied by New Delhi. Although India maintained that it doesn’t keep any such ‘killing list’, if indeed there were one, Cheema would have been on top along with Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD) chief Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar. The JUD is believed to be a front for the banned Islamist terror group, LeT.
