Watch: Israel bombards Hamas sites in Gaza Strip, 33 killed; later resumes truce enforcement
Israel attacked "terror" targets of the Hamas organisation in the Gaza Strip after the group reportedly broke the ceasefire deal.
According to the Israel defence force, the troops attacked, using Air Force fighter jets and over 120 munitions, a six-kilometer-long underground route of the Hamas terror organization.
Footage released by the IDF shows troops striking multiple locations in the Gaza Strip, followed by scenes of fire and smoke engulfing the area.
"The IDF attacked dozens of terror targets of the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip The IDF, led by the Southern Command, attacked in recent hours using fighter jets and aircraft of the Air Force and artillery, dozens of terror targets of the Hamas terror organization throughout the Gaza Strip, following the violation of a ceasefire agreement earlier today," the IDF said in a post.
"Among the targets attacked were sites for storing weapons, military infrastructure used by terrorists for terror activities, firing positions, terrorist cells, and additional terror infrastructure. Additionally, the IDF recently attacked, using Air Force fighter jets and over 120 munitions, a six-kilometer-long underground route of the Hamas terror organization," it added.
It later informed that it had "begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire".
"In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and following a series of significant strikes in response to Hamas' violations, the IDF has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire. The IDF will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violation of it," it said in a statement, AFP reported.
The IDF claimed that the underground route was used by the Hamas terror organization to advance terror plans against the State of Israel.
The Times of Israel reported that “terror operatives” emerged from a tunnel in southern Gaza and opened fire on Israeli troops, prompting an immediate IDF counterstrike.
Gaza's civil defence agency reported that a series of Israeli air strikes across the territory resulted in the deaths of at least 33 individuals on Sunday, revising the previous death toll of 21.
The Israeli military stated that it had targeted dozens of Hamas installations throughout the Gaza Strip, amid mutual accusations between Israel and Hamas of breaching the nine-day-old ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump.
