Saudi weather alert: Red warnings issued as heavy rain sweeps across 8 regions today
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a critical and urgent weather alert, placing eight regions in Saudi Arabia under Red, Orange, and Yellow warnings due to expected hazardous conditions. Residents are strongly advised to take immediate precautions against heavy rainfall, dangerous flash floods, strong and gusty winds, potential hail, and widespread thunderstorms.
The Red Alert zones are particularly at high risk, with severe weather expected to persist throughout the morning hours. Authorities urge everyone in the affected areas to stay updated with official reports and follow safety guideline
Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a series of weather alerts, including red, orange and yellow warnings, as a violent weather system moves across the kingdom. The alerts cover eight regions and warn of heavy to light rainfall, strong winds, hail, reduced horizontal visibility, frequent lightning and the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
The following areas are under the RED ALERT,the highest warning level. Residents should avoid valleys, flood-prone areas, and unnecessary travel.
These areas face high-risk conditions, including moderate to heavy rain and significant hazards. Drive with extreme caution and secure all outdoor belongings.
Conditions are expected to be light but hazardous, primarily due to reduced visibility and active thunderstorms.
This weather event is important because it combines several hazardous elements at once: intense rainfall that can cause sudden valley run-off and flash floods, strong gusts that reduce visibility and produce dust/sand squalls in some regions, and lightning that raises the risk for outdoor workers and travelers. Together these factors can disrupt road travel, damage infrastructure, and create dangerous conditions in rural and urban areas alike. Regional forecasts and emergency services are preparing for rapid response.
