NEW DELHI: An Israeli strike on Saturday targeted a vehicle carrying United Nations observers near Rmeish, a town in southern Lebanon, as per security sources.

Three United Nations observers were wounded when a shell exploded near them as they were carrying out a foot patrol in southern Lebanon, the UN peacekeeping mission said, adding it was still investigating the origin of the blast.

The UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) in a statement said the targeting of peacekeepers is "unacceptable."

The Israeli military's spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, refuted the claim that Israeli forces had attacked a UN peacekeeping mission vehicle

Israel has been engaged in clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon for about six months, alongside the Gaza conflict.

The shelling by Israel has resulted in the deaths of approximately 270 Hezbollah fighters and around 50 civilians, including children, medics, and journalists.

Notably, UNIFIL recently accused the Israeli military of violating international law by firing on a group of identifiable journalists, resulting in the death of a Reuters journalist.
