1 killed, 4 injured in stabbing attack in Israel's Haifa

A person was killed and four were injured in a stabbing attack in Israel's Haifa on Monday. The cops said an attacker has been "neutralised," reported news agency AFP.

Three other wounded are in serious condition, and one in moderate condition.

"Paramedics and EMTs have pronounced the death of a man around 70 years old and are providing medical treatment to and evacuating four injured individuals", Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service told AFP after the police reported the assailant was killed.

The attack happened just three days after a vehicle plowed into pedestrians on Highway 65 near the Pardes Hanna-Karkur intersection, which the Israeli Police have been investigating as a terror attack.

Even then, the suspect, identified as a 24-year-old Arab Israeli from Ma’ale Iron, was killed by security forces.

Israel is exposed to terror attacks due to several factors, including historical, political, religious and geopolitical factors. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains a major driver, with groups like Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targeting Israel in response to what they see as occupation, while Israel views its actions as necessary for security.

Territorial disputes, particularly in the West Bank and Jerusalem, fuel tensions, as do religious factors, with Islamist groups contributing to hostilities. Regional hostilities, including Iran's support for groups like Hezbollah, further escalate violence.

Additionally, the rise of lone-wolf attacks, fueled by social media and extremist propaganda, has added another layer to the threat. These factors combined make Israel a frequent target of terrorism, with deep-seated historical grievances and ongoing conflicts keeping the situation volatile.
