Hezbollah chief Nasrallah eliminated, won't be able to terrorize world: Israel

The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it"eliminated" Hassan Nasrallah, the long-time leader of the Hezbollah militant group, in a precision airstrike in Beirut on the previous day. In the statement, the IDF declared, "Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world."

The strike reportedly targeted a meeting of Hezbollah leaders at their headquarters in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital.

Among the other casualties in the strike was Ali Karki, Hezbollah’s commander of the southern front, as well as several high-ranking commanders, according to the Israeli military.

Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed that six people were killed and 91 others injured in the attack, which levelled six apartment buildings in the densely populated area. However, Hezbollah has not yet issued an official response to Nasrallah's reported death.

The airstrike is part of broader escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel continued its heavy bombardment of Hezbollah positions while the militant group launched dozens of rockets into northern and central Israel, as well as the Israel-occupied West Bank.

In retaliation, the Israeli military said it was mobilising additional reserve troops. It announced the activation of three reserve battalions, after having deployed two brigades to northern Israel earlier in the week to prepare for a potential ground invasion.

Several areas including southern Beirut and the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon were hit in Israel's overnight air offensives.

Smoke billowed over Beirut's southern suburbs, which were devastated by Israeli air attack. The streets were deserted, and shelters in the city were overflowing with displaced and affected residents.

Friday's strike was the largest blast in the Lebanese capital in the past year, signaling the potential for the conflict to spiral into full-scale war.

According to Lebanon's health ministry, at least 720 people had been killed in country over the past week.

Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah headed Hezbollah for over three decades, making it one of the most powerful militant groups in the middle east.
