Yahya Sinwar

Israel on October 18 confirmed the death of the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the architect of the 7 October 2023 attacks. The assassination was just the latest in a series of killings of senior Hamas leaders and other militants since that assault and the beginning of the war in Gaza.

2/14

Hassan Nasrallah

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah died in an Israeli airstrike on September 27. The strike hit the Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of Beirut. This loss is significant for Hezbollah, as the group faces ongoing Israeli attacks.

3/14

Faud Shukr

An Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon's capital, on July 30 resulted in the death of Hezbollah's top commander, Fuad Shukr. The Israeli military identified Shukr as a key figure in the organization, describing him as "the right-hand man of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah." Shukr had been a significant military leader within Hezbollah since its establishment by Iran's Revolutionary Guards over four decades ago.

4/14

Ismail Haniyeh

Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31, 2024. Haniyeh led Hamas' political wing and served as the former Palestinian prime minister. His assassination marked a significant event. Following his death, Sinwar’s leadership has focused on bolstering Hamas' military efforts.

5/14

Sami Taleb Abdallah

Hezbollah announced the death of Sami Taleb Abdallah, also known as al-Hajj Abu Taleb, on June 12, 2024. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a building in Jwayya, a town in south Lebanon. Hezbollah confirmed the incident, stating, "al-Hajj Abu Taleb died in an Israeli airstrike." The airstrike targeted a specific building, resulting in his death.

6/14

Mohammad Deif

Hamas military wing commander Mohammed Deif was killed in an airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip on July 13. On July 13, a strike targeted Deif at Hamas' Khan Younis Brigade commander Rafa'a Salameh's compound in the Khan Younis area.

7/14

Saleh-al Aroura

In January 2024, a suspected Israeli air strike in Beirut killed the deputy chair of Hamas’s guiding council and founding member. The 57-year-old was accused of running Hamas military operations in the occupied West Bank and managing the group's financial networks. Israeli authorities also believed he coordinated relations between Hamas and other organizations, including Hezbollah and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

8/14

Fatah Sharif

Hamas announced that its commander, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine, was killed in an air strike. The attack targeted his home in A1-Bass camp, which is located in southern Lebanon.

9/14

Marwan Issa

A senior military commander of Hamas, Marwan Issa, was killed in an airstrike in March. Issa was a key figure known to be involved in the planning of the attack on October 7. He was targeted while moving between locations and was not accompanied by hostages at the time.

Following Issa's death, Hamas leaders stopped all communications for several days. This decision was made to prevent any possible security breaches or infiltration that could expose them.
One official stated, “Hamas leaders cut communications entirely, with each other or anyone else, for days for fear of infiltration or a technological security breach that could expose them all.”

10/14

Mohammed Nasser

On July 3, an Israeli airstrike killed Mohammed Nasser, a senior Hezbollah commander. Israel has confirmed that Nasser led a unit responsible for attacks from southwestern Lebanon into Israel. Lebanese senior security sources have identified Nasser as overseeing part of Hezbollah's operations near the border. Israel asserted, "He headed a unit responsible for firing from southwestern Lebanon at Israel."

11/14

Nabil Kaouk

Israel has killed Nabil Kaouk, a senior Hezbollah commander, in an airstrike following the death of leader Hassan Nasrallah. Kaouk served as deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council and was involved in military operations since the 1980s.

12/14

Ibrahim Kobeissi

Ibrahim Mohammad Kobeissi, a prominent member of Hezbollah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday. Kobeissi was in charge of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit. This position allowed him to oversee the group's strategic military operations, particularly their ability to target Israeli positions with advanced weaponry. He had been linked to several rocket launches and a 2000 attack where three Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and killed.

13/14

Ibrahim Aqil

A senior Hezbollah leader, Ibrahim Aqil, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut's southern suburbs on September 2024. Aqil was a commander of the elite Radwan Forces, making his death a considerable loss for Hezbollah. The incident has heightened the already strained tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, contributing to the ongoing violence in the region. Experts believe that despite Aqil's death, Hezbollah’s adaptive capabilities may help lessen the impact on their military operations. The airstrike marks a significant escalation and poses questions about the future interactions between the two entities as the conflict continues.

14/14

Ahmed Wahbi

In Beirut’s southern suburbs, Dahieh, Hezbollah leader Ahmad Mahmoud Wahbi, also known as "Haj Abu Hussein Samir," was assassinated by Israeli Occupation Forces. This attack also resulted in the deaths of fellow commander Ibrahim Aqil and other officials.
