Central Dubai building hit with debris from missile interception; second incident in 2 days
Debris from a missile successfully intercepted by the UAE’s air defence systems struck the façade of a building in central Dubai on Saturday, authorities reported.
This marks the second such incident in Dubai in as many days.
“Authorities confirmed that the incident, caused by debris from a successful interception hitting a building in central Dubai, has been fully contained. No fire occurred and no injuries were reported,” the Dubai Media Office said in a post on X.
Dubai, the UAE’s largest city, has been repeatedly targeted by Iran amid the ongoing Middle East conflict that began on February 28. Tehran has retaliated against the joint US-Israeli strikes by attacking both Israel and Gulf countries hosting American military bases.
On Friday, debris from another intercepted attack struck a building in Dubai’s financial district.
Two witnesses speaking to AFP reported seeing damage at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) after hearing “loud bangs.” Authorities later confirmed that the façade of a building in “central Dubai” had been hit by debris from a successful missile interception.
On Thursday, a drone fell near DIFC, a day after Tehran threatened to target US- and Israel-linked banks and other economic sites following a reported attack on a bank in Iran.
The UAE’s air defences have intercepted more than 1,500 Iranian drones and nearly 300 missiles during the ongoing Middle East conflict—far more than any other country targeted by Iran.
Following the incidents, Abu Dhabi Police arrested 45 people, including foreigners, for filming and “spreading misinformation” about the attacks. Residents have received text alerts warning that sharing sensitive images or reposting unreliable information could lead to legal action.
