"The US is taking a much more balanced position which is really aimed at trying to resolve the Ukraine conflict. We welcome this," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

In a striking departure from its previous stance, the US on Monday twice aligned with Russia at the United Nations, opposing measures that would have condemned Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

This marked a significant shift in Washington's approach, signaling a potential recalibration of its diplomatic priorities following an abrupt rupture with Kyiv. The votes underscored a changing power dynamic at the UN, where the US had consistently backed Ukraine and denounced Russia—until now.

Meanwhile, India abstained from UN General Assembly vote on resolution calling for de-escalation, an early end to hostilities, and a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine.

The draft, titled "Advancing a Comprehensive, Just, and Lasting Peace in Ukraine," was proposed by Ukraine and its European allies and put to vote on in the 193-member assembly.
