LONDON: Academy award winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital to be treated for bipolar disorder.
The 41-year-old actress was admitted on last Wednesday to the Silver Hill hospital in Connecticut, where she shared a ward with alcoholics and drug addicts, reported Daily Mail online.
She stayed for five days at the $1000-a-day detox centre and was treated for bipolar disorder and depression, which was triggered by her husband Michael Douglas’ head-line grabbing battle with cancer last year.

Her publicist confirmed that the actress received mental health treatment to help her cope with her traumatic personal life.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week,” said the spokesperson.
Douglas accompanied his wife as she checked into the hospital under the name Terrie Kirny. pti
