Russia conducts 'massive strike' on Ukraine: Videos show Kyiv going dark, drone bursting into flames - Watch
A large-scale on Friday caused a fire in a in central and struck energy facilities across Ukraine, officials said.
Energy minister Svitlana Grynchuk said Russian forces were targeting energy infrastructure and that repair crews were working to reduce the impact of the strikes, news agency AFP reported.
"The capital of the country is under an enemy ballistic missile attack and a massive attack by the enemy strike drones," the Ukrainian air force said, urging residents of Kyiv to stay in shelters.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attacks hit "critical infrastructure" and injured at least nine people, five of whom were taken to hospital.
"The left bank of the capital is without electricity. There are also problems with water supply," Klitschko said on Telegram.
Grynchuk added that Russian forces were "inflicting a massive strike" on the power grid.
"Energy workers are taking all necessary measures to minimise the negative consequences," she said on Facebook. "As soon as security conditions allow, energy workers will begin clarifying the consequences of the attack and restoration work."
A video shared on social media platform X captured the moment electricity went out across parts of Kyiv.
Another clip showed a drone turning into a fireball before crashing to the ground.
In the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Russia launched at least seven drone strikes, injuring three people, according to regional military chief Ivan Fedorov.
Russia has recently increased attacks on Ukraine’s energy and railway networks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Moscow was trying to "create chaos" by targeting energy facilities and railways.
He also said Ukraine had intensified its own drone and missile strikes inside Russia, adding that the campaign was delivering "results" and driving up fuel prices in the country.
