Annie Ernaux, the 2022 Nobel laureate in Literature, talks to TOI Bookmark about her unique writing style, influences, and creative process. Ernaux was born in Normandy, where her parents ran a cafe and grocery in the working class part of town. Some of her prominent works are A Man's Place, The Years, Simple Passion, A Woman's Story, Exteriors, etc. From her working-class origins to her exploration of memory and language, Ernaux discusses the evolution of her craft and the importance of culture and freedom in her life and work.
