Bodies found by Scottish police confirmed as Hungarian sisters

LONDON: Two bodies found in a Scottish river have been identified as Hungarian sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, who vanished in the city of Aberdeen last month, police said.

"Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the exact cause of death, however there are no apparent suspicious circumstances," said police superintendent David Howieson.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, who along with another sister were triplets, were last seen walking along an Aberdeen street by the river Dee around 2:00 AM on January 7, according to CCTV images.

Police on January 31 said they had found a first body, and a day later said they had discovered a second.

The women, who were almost identical and liked to dress in similar clothing, shared a home and had lived in Scotland for about 10 years. Their third sister, Edit, stayed behind in Hungary.

The family in Hungary had alerted police when the sisters went missing.

Howieson said after their disappearance that the sisters' behaviour in the early hours of January 7 was "very out of character".

Their brother Jozsef said the family had been in touch with the sisters to mark the New Year, and they appeared to be "happy and cheerful".

He told the BBC, however, that he was surprised to learn they had given notice to their landlord, as they had not mentioned moving out and were saving to buy their own house.
