Prableen Kaur Bhomrah busts skincare myths: ‘Applying things like besan, turmeric, tomato can be harsh’ - Exclusive

The beauty and skin-care industry has evolved over the years. It is now more embracing the beauty of individuality and acceptance of one’s own skin. Speaking on the subject, Prableen Kaur Bhomrah, one of India’s beloved skin-body positive influencers, shared her journey and insights, and more in an exclusive conversation with us.

“Initially, my relationship with beauty and skincare, especially as a teenager and in my early 20s, was more about concealing and making my skin look picture-perfect. Over time, that changed,” she told TOI Women.




“I started embracing my scars and texture, and beauty became more about enhancing my existing features rather than hiding them,” she said before adding, “Earlier, I wasn’t even very consistent with skincare. But now I genuinely enjoy it.”

“I have realised that prep is what really makes makeup look good, and that shift has completely changed how I view beauty and skincare today,” said Prabhleen.

Busting skincare myths

As we dove deeper into the subject of skincare, Prableen Kaur Bhomrah said there are so many myths in this field. “But one major one is trying every home remedy you see and assuming it will work. Using random face packs, overdoing actives, or applying things like besan, turmeric, tomato, or lemon because our dadis and nanis recommended them can actually be very harsh and acidic for the skin,” she mentioned.

“Every skin type is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s important to stick to skincare that your skin responds well to, give it time to heal, and treat it gently. Your skin will eventually become your best friend,” Prabhleen added.

Beauty beyond appearances

Further, explaining her concept of beauty, she mentioned, “For me, it is about being confident in my skin and in my body. It’s about feeling like the best version of myself. When I feel comfortable, confident, empowered, and truly good in my body, that’s when I feel the most beautiful.”

She also shed light on beauty trends and filters. “There will always be trends coming and going, but I pick and choose what works for me. I like to add my own twist to trends instead of blindly following everything,” she said.

“It’s not necessary to do every trend just to stay relevant. Building your community is what really takes you far in the long run. Trends are great for engagement and can give you a short push, but beyond that, they don’t do much. What truly builds your page is the conversations you create, the education, and the information you put out consistently,” she concluded.
