A team of 48 rafters of 158 armoured brigade launched a unique white water rafting and kayaking expedition recently from Uttarkashi. According to Colonel Bishamber Dayal, the expedition leader, “The expedition is unique because it is the largest ever team to venture on white waters. It is also the first Indian team and only the second to salute the holy Bhagirathi north of the Tehri (zero point), the first being an American in 1976.
The other unique feature is that it includes Yamuna in the expedition.�
Taking off from Joshiyada Bridge at Uttarkashi the first phase of the two legged expedition culminated at Rishikesk.
The second leg of the expedition was launched on the Yamuna from Barkot and finished at Poanta Sahib. The expedition team comprising five officers, three JCOs and 42 Jawans traversed over 250 kms in 11 days in two rafts and one kayaks.
