Youn Yuh Jung reveals she threw out the film script after she was asked to audition for ‘Pachinko’, Lee Min Ho gave four auditions too

Oscars winning actress Youn Yuh Jung is all set for her Apple TV+ debut with her upcoming ‘

’. During the press conference of the series, the actress recently revealed that she was asked to audition for the role despite being in the profession for 52 years.

Youn Yuh Jung said, “It didn't make sense for me to audition after acting for decades."


She further went on to explain that it’s the American culture where actors are required to audition for the projects which she wasn’t used to as a Korean. “If I auditioned and then the show said, 'we don't think you're suitable for this role,' then in our industry people will say, 'Youn Yuh Jung failed the audition.' I couldn't lose my 50-year career for this one role, so I threw out the eight scripts I received by the front door,” she said.

“I was told that's not the case and they asked me to participate in the drama so I filmed it,” she added.

‘Pachinko’ stars Youn Yuh Jung sharing the screenspace with Lee Min Ho. Interestingly, he too had to audition for the series.

Previously, Lee Min Ho had shared that he underwent a total of 4 auditions to bag the leading role. “I know there were 6 auditions in total, but I think I did 4 of them,” he said.


Apart from Lee Min Ho and Youn Yuh Jung, ‘Pachinko’ also has

Jung Eun Chae

and Anna Sawai in key roles. It will premiere on March 25.
