‘Uprising’ announces October release date and reveals intriguing new poster
The highly anticipated historical film ‘Uprising’ is officially set to premiere worldwide on October 11, and excitement is already building with the release of a striking new launch poster. The film, directed by Kim Sang Man and penned by Shin Cheol and Park Chan Wook, promises to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally charged storyline set against the chaotic backdrop of the Japanese invasion of Korea.
Featuring an impressive ensemble cast, ‘Uprising’ stars Kang Dong Won, Park Jung Min, Kim Shin Rock, Jin Sun Kyu, Jung Sung Il, and Cha Seung Won. Kang Dong Won plays Cheon Yeong, a servant turned guerrilla fighter known for his exceptional swordsmanship, while Park Jung Min stars as Jong Ryeo, the heir of a distinguished military family who remains loyal to King Seonjo, portrayed by Cha Seung Won. As the Japanese forces invade, Jong Ryeo and Cheon Yeong find themselves on opposing sides, highlighting the personal and political conflicts of the era.
The film has been selected as the opening feature for the 29th Busan International Film Festival, further amplifying its buzz. Festival programmer Jeong Han Seok has lauded ‘Uprising’ as “a sophisticated and powerful historical epic that shines in every aspect”, underscoring its anticipated impact on audiences and critics alike. The story is set during a period of immense strife when the king’s flight leaves civilians to fend for themselves, subsequently being branded as rebels by their oppressors. ‘Uprising’ revolves around the lives of those who resist their fates, fighting against overwhelming odds in a desperate bid for survival and justice.
The newly revealed poster captures the film's intense and dramatic tone with an evocative image: a hand, wrapped in red cloth, gripping a raised sword. This powerful visual symbolizes the chaos and conflict that drive the plot. The poster reflects the dual nature of the film - both a tale of personal struggle and a broader commentary on the era's upheaval.
Alongside Kang Dong Won and Park Jung Min, the film features standout performances from Kim Shin Rock as Beom Dong, a resilient guerrilla fighter; Jin Sun Kyu as Kim Ja Ryeong, a nobleman leading civilians through the chaos; Jung Sung Il as Genshin, the brutal Japanese commander; and Cha Seung Won as the cowardly king who abandons his people during their time of need. This diverse and talented cast is expected to bring depth and intensity to the film, making ‘Uprising’ a must-see event this fall.
