KBS issues an apology for cultural heritage damage during drama filming

The Korean Broadcasting Service has publicly apologized for damaging a UNESCO World Heritage site during the filming of its upcoming drama, 'The First Night With the Duke', according to KBS.
A netizen posted on social media that the production team of the drama hammered nails into Andong Byeongsan Seowon, an historic site, which is under Historic Site No. 260 and recognized by UNESCO.
In response, Andong City Hall confirmed the incident, saying: "We approved filming with severe restrictions on structures and not causing damage to cultural heritage in the protected area. Filming had to be carried out in such a way as to ensure the safety and protection of the location.
As public outburst and unrest continued, KBS apologized formally for this situation, and at the same time expressed sorrow:
"First and foremost, we sincerely apologize for causing concern to viewers regarding this incident.
The production team had obtained permission to film at Andong Byeongsan Seowon at the end of last year. However, during the process of setting up props, a visitor at the site raised objections, questioning how nails could be driven into a cultural heritage site to hang props.
Regardless of the reasons, KBS recognizes the seriousness of the situation that occurred on-site and deeply regrets what has happened. We are currently working to fully understand the details of the incident and are discussing the best possible methods for restoration. In relation to the situation at the time, the drama’s representatives are in communication with the Byeongsan Seowon officials, conducting on-site inspections, and coordinating the necessary restoration procedures. Furthermore, we are actively discussing measures to prevent such incidents from happening again and addressing any additional damage that may arise.
KBS once again offers our deepest and most sincere apologies to everyone for this situation related to the drama filming."
'First Night With the Duke' is a fantasy romance where a college student is transported into a romance novel and spends the night with the male lead. The drama stars Girls' Generation's Seohyun and 2PM's Taecyeon.
