Actor Jung Woo-sung faced the global press for the first time since the revelation of his out-of-wedlock child late last year. On November 13, local time, Jung attended the 'Original Preview 2025' event hosted by a major streaming platform at a Hong Kong hotel to promote his new series 'Made in Korea'. Although he had previously addressed the situation at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, this marked his first interaction with the international media regarding the matter.
Focus on 'Made in Korea' over personal matters
During the event, Jung Woo-sung spoke exclusively about his lead role in 'Made in Korea' and avoided mentioning his child or recent marriage registration with his non-celebrity partner. Korean journalists present at the event did not get an opportunity to ask questions, limiting the scope to the series and its promotion.
About 'Made in Korea'
According to Yonhap News, 'Made in Korea' is a high-budget tentpole production co-produced by the streaming service and HYBE Mediacoop. Set in the tumultuous 1970s, it depicts Baek Ki-tae (Hyun Bin), a man leading a double life as a Central Intelligence agent by day and a smuggler by night, and his endless conflict with tenacious prosecutor Jang Gun-young (Jung Woo-sung). The drama is director Woo Min-ho's first series project, known for film hits such as 'Inside Men' and 'The Man Standing Next'.
Early hesitation and eventual acceptance
Jung Woo-sung revealed that he initially hesitated to take the role, feeling the character Jang Gun-young might not suit him. However, after reading the script, he realized there was space for him to fill and bravely accepted the director's offer, highlighting his thoughtful approach to acting.
Historical backdrop and human desires
Jung emphasized the drama's focus on real historical events and the changes in its characters within that context. He described 'Made in Korea' as a story based on historical facts but dramatized to show how human beings can become extremely driven by their desires in order to survive.
Reunion with Hyun Bin and production notes
The lead actors Jung Woo-sung and Hyun Bin reunited after working together in the movie 'Harbin'. Hyun Bin credited the powerful script and the mix of 1970s historical setting and fiction for the drama's strength. Woo Min-ho, the director, recalled living through that turbulent era himself and used his previous works for reference to portray twisted human desires and beliefs.
Release schedule
The six-episode 'Made in Korea' season 1 will premiere with two episodes on December 24, followed by two episodes on December 31, and the final two episodes released sequentially on January 7 and 14, 2026.
