In the realm of advertising, Koreans have spoken, and IU and Gong Yoo have emerged as the top favourite advertising models for 2023, according to a survey conducted by the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation. The survey, carried out online from November 27 to November 30, involved 2,000 participants spanning men and women aged 20 to 59.
In addition to revealing the preferred faces in advertising, the report shed light on the priorities of Korean consumers heading into 2024. Topping the list were concerns related to "exercise, diet and health management", followed closely by considerations regarding "investment and savings".
IU, celebrated for her versatile talents in music and acting, claimed the top spot among advertising models with an impressive 8.1 percent approval. Since her debut in 2008, IU has navigated seamlessly between music and the small and big screens. Notable projects in her extensive portfolio include ‘My Mister’, ‘Hotel Del Luna’, ‘The Producers’, ‘Broker’ and the recent film collaboration with Park Seo Joon, ‘Dream’.
Figure skating sensation Kim Yuna secured the second position with 6.9 percent, adding to her accolades as an Olympic champion and national figure skating icon. Gong Yoo, a leading figure in the Korean entertainment industry, clinched the third spot with 6.1 percent. Known for his roles in hit K-dramas like ‘Coffee Prince’ and ‘Goblin’, Gong Yoo's global recognition soared with his performance in the K-zombie film ‘Train to Busan’.
Gong Yoo is set to reprise his role in ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, following his iconic cameo in the Netflix series. Additionally, he has been offered the lead role in the novel-based K-drama ‘The Trunk’, directed by Kim Kyu Tae of ‘It's Okay That's Love’ and ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’.
As for IU, the multi-talented artist is making a K-drama comeback with the melodrama ‘You Have Done Well’, alongside stellar co-stars Park Bo Gum, Moon So Ri, and Park Hae Joon. With these exciting developments, both IU and Gong Yoo continue to be forces to be reckoned with in the Korean entertainment industry.
