A new name is preparing to enter the acting world in 2026. Vir Hirani, the son of acclaimed filmmaker
Rajkumar Hirani, is reportedly gearing up for his on-screen debut. His first project will be the upcoming web series ‘Pritam Pedro’, which also marks Rajkumar Hirani’s debut in the digital streaming space. If the schedule remains on track, the cyber-crime drama is expected to premiere on JioHotstar sometime in May this year.
Series release delayed from original slate
As stated by Mid-Day, the series was initially announced as part of the platform’s 2025-26 content lineup. However, production and post-production took longer than anticipated, pushing the release timeline. The report also mentioned that the cyber crime thriller was originally slated in the streamer’s 2025-26 slate. But it will finally arrive this May.
Storyline revolves around two contrasting cops
‘Pritam Pedro’ will reportedly follow the unusual partnership between two police officers who approach crime-solving in very different ways. Actor Arshad Warsi will play a seasoned, old-school cop who relies on traditional methods. He is forced to collaborate with a younger officer portrayed by Vir Hirani, a tech-savvy investigator who uses digital tools and cyber expertise to crack cases. The contrast between the two characters is expected to drive the narrative of the thriller.
Casting change led to Vir Hirani’s debut
Interestingly, Vir Hirani was not originally planned as the lead for the series. Rajkumar Hirani, known for directing blockbuster films such as ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’, ‘3 Idiots’, and ‘Sanju’, had initially cast
Vikrant Massey for the young officer role. However, due to casting changes, Massey stepped away from the project. The report explained how the opportunity eventually came to Vir: “Vir wasn’t supposed to be launched with ‘Pritam Pedro’. But during casting changes, Hirani felt Vir could fit in as a young tech geek."
Rajkumar Hirani’s first digital venture
Apart from introducing Vir Hirani to audiences, ‘Pritam Pedro’ is also significant because it marks Rajkumar Hirani’s first major step into the streaming world. The filmmaker is attached to the series as a co-producer and showrunner, overseeing the creative direction of the project.
