‘Daldal’ star Aditya Rawal opens up on playing his darkest and most challenging role yet: ‘I wanted to do good work with good people’

Starring Bhumi Pednekar as DCP Rita Ferreira, the series promises an intense dive into crime and human vulnerability. Ahead of its release, actor Aditya Rawal, son of veteran actor Paresh Rawal, has spoken candidly about portraying one of the most emotionally demanding characters of his career.
In an interview with The Daily Jagran, he said, “I’ll be honest, there was a moment of hesitation. Daldal is dark, uncomfortable and emotionally demanding, and I wasn’t sure at first if I was ready to go that far.” The emotional weight of the character initially made him pause, unsure if he could access such a disturbing mindset.
That lingering discomfort ultimately pushed him toward the role rather than away from it. He realised that the fear he felt was precisely why the part mattered.
With its layered characters and psychological depth, ‘Daldal’ is shaping up to be a gripping watch when it arrives on Amazon Prime Video on January 30, 2026.
Aditya Rawal on stepping into dark territory
In Daldal, Aditya Rawal plays Sajid, a man caught between dependency and collapse. His connection to brutal crimes raises more questions than answers, placing him firmly in morally grey territory. Rawal admitted that taking on the role was not an easy decision.
What convinced him to say yes
Despite his hesitation, the story stayed with him. Rawal revealed how the narration shifted his perspective. “But when Amrit narrated the story, it stayed with me. I went home thinking that opportunities like this don’t come often—where characters genuinely scare you and force you to understand parts of the world you haven’t yet.”That lingering discomfort ultimately pushed him toward the role rather than away from it. He realised that the fear he felt was precisely why the part mattered.
The most difficult, yet rewarding role
Playing Sajid turned out to be a defining experience for the actor. Rawal described it as his toughest performance to date. “It turned out to be the most difficult character I’ve played so far, but also the most rewarding.” The role demanded emotional honesty and psychological depth, pushing him to confront themes that are rarely comfortable to explore.Trust, instinct and creative growth
Rawal also spoke about the trust he placed in the script and the director, explaining why the final decision felt right. “I loved the script, trusted the director, and felt this role would teach me something new—about addiction, vulnerability and human fragility. At that point, the decision became simple. I wanted to do good work with good people and let everything else fall into place. That instinct led me to Daldal, and I’m incredibly grateful I followed it.”With its layered characters and psychological depth, ‘Daldal’ is shaping up to be a gripping watch when it arrives on Amazon Prime Video on January 30, 2026.
