'Brown' teaser: Karisma Kapoor plays alcoholic, pill-popping troubled cop in neo-noir thriller, netizens heap praise - Watch

Karisma Kapoor is back in a darker and tougher avatar as the teaser of ZEE5’s ‘Brown’ is out. The series features her as Rita Brown, a damaged yet driven cop who grapples with personal pain while pursuing a brutal case. Soon after the teaser dropped, fans filled the comments section with praise, calling her return powerful and long-awaited. Many also said they were excited to see Karisma in a raw role that looks far from her earlier screen image.

Karisma Kapoor leads ‘Brown’ teaser

The Hindu reported earlier that ‘Brown’ stars Karisma as a tenacious but pill-popping cop who sets out to catch a psychopath. Her character, Rita Brown, struggles with alcoholism, loss, depression, and her own inner demons while trying to stay relevant in her career and life.





Karisma had told The Hindu, “The character is so raw and human.” She added, “I was looking for something that is creatively satisfying. Apart from the crime drama where Brown is investigating the brutal murder of a girl, we are touching upon a subject that is not normally dealt with on screen.”

The series is directed by Abhinay Deo and is based on Abheek Barua’s novel ‘City of Death’. It is set in Kolkata and is set against an Anglo-Indian backdrop. The cast also includes Soni Razdan, who plays Karisma’s mother.

Speaking about the role, Karisma had said, “The inspirational journey of a woman who is worn out and beat up. She is going through a lot but still turns up when the situation demands her.”
