The Archies vs Riverdale: Similar shows that screened at the same time

Zoya Akhtar is banding together a bunch of young star-kids to bring her version of the popular Archies Comics to the Indian audience. This announcement comes at a time when the American teen drama 'Riverdale', which is also based on the same subject, has been renewed for a new season. We've drawn up a list of similar series that screened around the same time.

Indian fans of Archies comics will soon get a 'desi' musical on the coming-of-age story. Helmed by Zoya Akhtar, 'The Archies' is set to star Suhana Khan as Veronica Lodge, Agastya Nanda as Archie Andrews, Khushi Kapoor as Betty Cooper and Vedang Raina as Jughead Jones. An official announcement on the same is still awaited. Interestingly, this desi adaptation comes at a time when fans around the world are currently hooked on the American teen drama 'Riverdale' that unlocks darker secrets about the sleepy town.

The 'Twilight' saga left fans around the world thirsting for blood, action and forbidden romance. That's when the Vampire series 'True Blood' debuted on television, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. Interestingly, it was only months later that Twihards strapped on for a long ride with the teen romance drama, 'The Vampire Diaries' which went on to have 8 successful seasons with a total of 171 episodes.

What's better than a show about scheming royals? Well, two, of course. At a time when the 'Game of Thrones' frenzy was slowly spreading around the world, another royal drama was also gaining ground. 'Reign', based on the life of Mary, the Queen of Scots, also wooed the audience.

The comedy series 'Weeds' also revolved around a similar plot about a parent who sees a lucrative business in dealing marijuana to local clients.
