Liked Luca Guadagnino's American Psycho? Then these black comedy thrillers on OTT, you simply can't miss

Satire, suspense, and psychological tension pretty much sum up the rollercoaster ride the 2000 film ‘American Psycho’ gives you. Set in the excess-driven world of 1980s Manhattan, the film has a separate fan base that feels legitimate years after its release. What makes 'American Psycho' endure isn’t just its shocking moments, but its biting humor. The film follows Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker obsessed with status, appearance, and perfection. As he navigates elite social circles by day, cracks begin to appear in his carefully curated life, revealing a deeply disturbed psyche beneath the polished surface.

To add more such black comedy thrillers, here are some recommendations that you just can’t miss!

‘Parasite’

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the 2019 South Korean film explores themes of extreme class disparity and social inequality. It follows the struggling, low-income Kim family as they deceitfully infiltrate the lives of the wealthy Park family by posing as highly qualified, unrelated professionals. After securing different positions in the house, the Kims enjoy a life of luxury until they discover a dark, hidden secret.
‘Parasite’ stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam. Its total runtime is 132 minutes, and it is available for streaming on Sony Liv.

‘Burn After Reading’

This 2008 film, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, is for those who enjoyed the unpredictable tone of ‘American Psycho.’ The film features an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, and more. ‘Burn After Reading’ follows two clueless gym employees, who somehow get a disc containing seemingly sensitive CIA material in their hands. Their dim-witted scheme sets off a chain of misunderstandings involving government agents, chaos, and violence.
The film is perfect to watch in one sitting with a runtime of 96 minutes. The film is available to stream on Prime Video.

4/5

‘Bugonia’

This 2025 black comedy thriller stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the title refers to an ancient Greek practice of producing bees from a dead ox, hinting at themes of creation and destruction. ‘Bugonia’ follows two conspiracy-obsessed men who kidnap a high-powered CEO, convinced she is an alien intending to destroy Earth.
The film’s runtime is 118 minutes, and it is available to rent on Prime Video and Apple TV.

5/5

‘Vengeance’

‘Vengeance’ is a satirical commentary on modern American culture, podcasting, and cultural divides. This 2022 black comedy thriller stars B.J. Novak, who also wrote and directed the film. The story follows Novak’s character Ben Manalowitz, a New York journalist, who travels to rural Texas after the sudden death of a woman he once casually dated, and he’s pulled into a situation her family believes was murder. He is soon pulled into suspicion and his own assumptions about truth and storytelling.
The film runs 108 minutes and is available for streaming on JioHotsar.
