Although both women were middle-class and married into the royal family, their experiences behind the palace walls are said to have been quite different.
Former staff’s new book
According to a report by the Daily Mail, royal expert Tom Quinn compiled accounts from former royal staff in his book ‘Yes, Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants.’ These testimonies suggest that while Kate and Meghan both entered the royal family as outsiders, their personalities led them to handle royal life differently.
Kate Middleton: "Meghan without the messianic complex"
One former staff member described Kate Middleton by stating, she "is Meghan without the messianic complex.” Staff accounts portrayed Meghan Markle as someone who approached royal duties with less deference and a strong wish to modernize the monarchy.
One staff member said, “Meghan thought she knew better than an institution that has been in business for 1,000 years and more.” Another reportedly added, “She was a great believer in grabbing the bull by the horns — except the Royal Family is not really a bull.” Meghan was also allegedly quoted by staff as saying, “What Diana began, I will complete,” although she recognized her role was only part-time.
Kate Middleton’s approach
Kate Middleton, on the other hand, allegedly adopted a more cautious and sensitive approach. She listened to senior royals like Camilla, quietly learned how the palace operated, and respected the advice of staff and members of the royal family. She was described by former employees as courteous, traditional, and aware of royal customs.
Meghan Markle’s challenges with palace traditions
According to the accounts, Meghan’s determination to make a large impact sometimes clashed with the royal family's established traditions and hierarchy. While both women faced some criticism from palace traditionalists, Kate Middleton reportedly showed a greater willingness to accept advice and compromise — a quality not consistently attributed to Meghan.
