Eric Dane makes FIRST posthumous ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 appearance as Cal after Sam Levinson’s vow of 'gonna make it work'

Eric Dane made his first posthumous appearance in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 on Sunday, when Cal Jacobs returned in Episode 2, ‘America My Dream’. The scene aired nearly two months after Dane died on February 19, 2026, at 53, following an ALS battle. Before his death, the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor finished filming for the HBO drama, giving viewers another chance to see Cal on screen after the season premiere honored him with the message, “In remembrance of Eric Dane. 1972-2026.”PEOPLE previously reported Dane’s ALS diagnosis and his plan to keep working. Access Hollywood later featured him saying it was great to be back on set. Extra also shared creator Sam Levinson’s account of filming with Dane during the new season. Cal appears midway through the episode during a calm visit with his son Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. They talk in Nate’s kitchen with little of the rage that defined their bond in Seasons 1 and 2. Cal arrives singing and in high spirits, then tells Nate he is attending SLA meetings, which is ‘Sex and Love Addicts.’When the conversation turns to Nate’s fiancée Cassie, Cal voices concern after learning she is selling photos on OnlyFans to raise USD 50K for flowers for their wedding. He also asks if Nate is having “financial issues” after taking over the family construction business. Nate does not answer. As Nate cooks, Cal warns him about “chasing pleasure” instead of being “grateful to what I had at home.” Nate shoots back, “you’re gay. You’re in denial, and it came out in very weird ways.” Cal replies, “I’m not gay, I was a hedonist.”The scene marks a major change from the earlier seasons, when Cal and Nate’s relationship turned violent and ended with Nate calling the police on his father. Season 3 jumps ahead five years, but the show does not explain how they reached this uneasy peace.Levinson told Extra that Dane shared his diagnosis before filming began. He recalled telling the actor, “Eric, whatever shape you show up in, we’re gonna make it work. I have faith that it’s all gonna work.” Levinson also said Dane had “a slight slur in his voice” on set, and remembered joking about working it into the scene.More of Dane’s final work is still expected this season. Trailer footage already shows Cal at Nate and Cassie’s wedding in Episode 3, extending the late actor’s presence in one of TV’s most closely watched returns.
