Staring at a rare series defeat in the Caribbean, India will need to bat with the fearlessness required in the shortest format when they face the West Indies in the must-win third T20 International here Tuesday.

The slow pitches on offer have not been the best for batting but as skipper Hardik Pandya pointed out after the loss on Sunday, India should have found a way to score additional 10-20 runs. Pandya, leading an India side sans several frontline players, put the onus on their top and middle order to score more runs.

As a result, the Indian team suffered their second successive defeat in the five-match series against West Indies and the loss also highlighted the lack of batting firepower in their lower-order.

The shortest format demands the batters to go hard from ball one and that is something India's top and middle-order, comprising Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, have not been able to do.

The lengthy tail of India's batting lineup was exposed again on Sunday and pundits say the team management need to find a solution ahead of the T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States next year.

India's decision to pick specialist bowlers, who can hardly bat, effectively left them with four number 11 batters in both matches. They now need to win the third match in Providence on Tuesday to stay afloat in the series.

India, who last lost to the West Indies in a bilateral T20 series back in 2016, trail 0-2 in the five-match series. West Indies won the opener by four runs.

With India staring at a series defeat against low-ranked West Indies, fans vented out their fury using memes on social media. Fans were particularly hard on Pandya’s poor captaincy, Gill’s awful batting form and Rahul Dravid’s coaching.
