NEW DELHI: The editor of the Pakistan edition of

Newsweek

magazine has landed himself in a soup over his tweets on rape and pedophilia.

, the editor of the magazine posted tweets on rape and child abuse that has not gone down well with Twitter. He was tweeting regarding the recent rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in the border town of Kasur which has caused an uproar in Pakistan.

Trouble began when Ahmed on Tuesday tweeted, "The sexual abuse of children will always exist. You can never eliminate it. Sometimes it leads to great art. So there’s also that." The tweet was apparently deleted later.

He went on to tweet that "rape by Obama is rape but rape by, say, Tom Cruise is everyone’s dream come true".



Ahmed's tweets were widely criticised by people on Twitter after he defended his views in several exchanges on Twitter.







Following the backlash, the magazine tweeted that it was reviewing its relationship with Ahmed.

Ahmed, however, late on Wednesday evening, apologized for his insensitive remarks and tweeted that they came from a place of "anger, were poorly phrased, and misread."
