BCCI's initiative to plant 500 trees for every dot pall ignites hilarious memes
Fans who were watching the IPL 2023 playoffs between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings were confused to see a 'tree' emoticon being displayed in place of the normal dots whenever a dot ball was bowled during the clash. During the match, for every dot ball, the graphic on screen was changed to a tree, which garnered a lot of curiosity among cricket fans and many wondered the reason behind it.
It was later cleared by commentators and media reports that it was part of BCCI’s new pledge called 'Green dot balls'. As part of this initiative, for every dot ball thrown in the four playoff games, the Indian cricket board pledges to plant 500 trees, emphasizing its commitment to the environment.
The BCCI will be partnering with the Tata Group for this new green initiative. It is for the same reason, tree symbol was being used to indicate dot balls whenever the overs progression graphic was brought up on the screens.
Amused, fans flooded social media with memes targeting the likes of KL Rahul, Jos Buttler, etc, who are known to play a lot of dot balls.
