Onlookers were left shocked as they witnessed the world-famous Bhedaghat Ropeway cable car in Jabalpur, stuck dangling 90 feet in the air. The entire incident was part of a mock drill conducted to assess the preparedness of ropeway sites during emergency situations. The exercise aimed to test the disaster mitigation and management plan, in collaboration with local authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, following last year's accident at the Trikoot Ropeway in Devghar, Jharkhand.Under the supervision of Deputy Commandant Santosh Kumar, the District Disaster Management Authority, various stakeholders, and ropeway staff participated in the joint mock exercise. During the drill, an emergency situation was simulated where cable cars were trapped approximately 90 feet above the Narmada river at Bhedaghat due to a technical glitch, with passengers inside. Immediate notification was sent to the emergency control room, NDRF units, and all relevant stakeholders. Upon reaching the scene, the NDRF team conducted an initial assessment and established operation bases, command posts, medical posts, and communication posts. Following the evaluation, a swift rescue operation was launched, safely evacuating all stranded individuals using various rope rescue techniques. Medical agencies provided primary care before transferring the injured to hospitals. The Incident Response System (IRS) guidelines were strictly followed throughout the exercise.
