Jailed journalist Siddique Kappan’s daughter appeals for protection of citizen rights in viral I-Day speech

9-year-old daughter of jailed journalist Siddique Kappan, Mehnaz Kappan, in her Independence Day speech, appealed to protect citizens' rights. “I am Mehnaz Kappan ,daughter of journalist Siddique Kappan, a citizen who has been forced into a dark room by breaking all of the freedom of a citizen,” said the young girl at her school function in Kerala. Kappan was arrested in October 2020 on his way to report on the Hathras gangrape by Uttar Pradesh police. This speech by his daughter has gone viral.
