The Indian govt has announced that all VIP quota for Hajj has been scrapped. At present 500 seats were reserved for VIPs. India has got a quota of 1 lakh 75 thousand pilgrims for Hajj 2023. The annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia will return to pre-COVID pandemic levels in 2023: reports. Over 30,000 Muslims from Uttar Pradesh will undertake Hajj pilgrimage in 2023. In a significant step, the women opting for Hajj pilgrimage, have been allowed to go without a 'mahram'- a man. In October 2022, Saudi Arabia had announced that mahram is no longer required to accompany a woman pilgrim. For Hajj 2023, a notification will also be issued in a week’s time. This year’s Hajj pilgrimage will begin on June 26.
