Watch: Huge protest in Mizoram over Manipur rape and violence, CM Zoramthanga also joins protest
On July 25, residents of Aizawl, Mizoram, took to the streets to express their protest over the issues occurring in Manipur. They stood in solidarity with Manipur, displaying banners and voicing their concern. Notably, Chief Minister Zoramthanga, Deputy CM Tawnluia, ministers, and MLAs of the state actively joined the protest, emphasizing their support for the cause. Banners condemning the heinous Manipur rapes were prominently exhibited during the demonstration, reflecting the collective outrage over the appalling incident where two women were paraded naked. The brutality of this event deeply impacted the entire nation. The protest witnessed the active involvement of thousands of common people, who passionately participated in the rally. In response to the demonstrations, security measures were intensified across Mizoram to ensure public safety. The enormity of the gathering in Aizawl was unprecedented, marking it as the largest demonstration in recent years. Participants utilized placards and posters to vehemently denounce the violence in the neighboring state. To maintain order during the rallies, heavy police deployment and patrolling were implemented throughout all districts. The entire event was organized by the NGO Co-ordination Committee, which comprises five major civil society organizations, including CYMA and MZP, demonstrating the united front of Mizoram's community in addressing the issues in Manipur.
