Supreme Court weighs lifetime ban from elections for convicted politicians amid disparity concerns

Amicus curiae Vijay Hansaria highlights the disparity in consequences for government employees and politicians convicted of crimes. Government employees face dismissal upon conviction, while politicians only face a six-year disqualification. He argues that convicted politicians being eligible for office is manifestly arbitrary. The Supreme Court is separately examining the validity of Section 8(3) of the Representation of the People Act.
