External Affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar has told the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong that peace and tranquility at the border is essential for relations between the both sides to progress. The EAM received Weidong at South Block for a farewell call on October 26. Dr Jaishankar told the outgoing Ambassador that normalisation of India-China relations is in the interest of both countries, of Asia and the world at large. However, he also added that the bilateral relations will be guided by 3 mutuals, that is mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest. Before this, the Chinese Ambassador had released a farewell message in a video in which he underplayed the differences between the two countries and made no mention of the tense standoff at multiple locations on the LAC.
