Olympic star Vivek Sagar's father: I slapped him for playing hockey but he's made us proud

Vivek Sagar, Olympic bronze medalist, wouldn’t have been on the podium in Tokyo if his schoolteacher father had his way. But then, he had his doting sisters and a brother to shield him from his father’s ‘thappads’ and make up alibis for his backdoor sneakouts. “I regret the day I slapped Vivek for playing hockey,” his father, primary schoolteacher Rohit Sagar Prasad told TOI on Thursday, watching the house fill up with people streaming in to congratulate. “He truly is a gem.”
