The government has constituted a committee to explore the possibility of 'one nation, one election'. PTI has reported that the the committee will be headed by ex-President Ram Nath Kovind. The announcement comes a day after the Centre announced a special 5-day Parliament session. This session will be held from Sept 18-22. There is speculation that this session could be held in the newly inaugurated Parliament building. Opposition leader, Congrees' Jairam Ramesh said the government’s decision is aimed at managing "the news cycle" to counter INDIA bloc’s Mumbai meeting and allegations against the Adani Group. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said the special session called during "India's most important festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is unfortunate and goes against the Hindu sentiments. The government has reportedly asked officials to cancel any foreign trips that may clash with the session dates.
