ICMR conducted a thorough study to investigate the tragic deaths of young individuals during Garba dances. The results of this study were deeply concerning, suggesting a potential link to the aftermath of COVID-19. Recent times have seen a surge in reported deaths due to heart issues in Gujarat, particularly during the lively 'garba' events that are an integral part of Navratri festivities. Garba involves vigorous dancing, characterized by continuous motion, leaps, and graceful spins, contributing to its spirited and occasionally whirlwind tempo, which is what endears it to many. However, these dynamic moves can significantly elevate heart rates and oxygen requirements, potentially posing challenges for those with pre-existing heart conditions. Individuals with suboptimal physical fitness levels also need to be cautious. In response to these alarming developments, State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel convened a meeting with medical experts, including cardiologists, to address the issue. Among the unfortunate victims of heart attacks was Veer Shah, a Class 12 student from Kheda district. Many of those affected suddenly collapsed while immersed in the joy of Garba. Over the initial six days of Navratri, the 108 emergency ambulance services received 521 calls related to heart issues, underscoring the importance of this matter.
